RAUTOR

Rautor is primarily an auditing application, but can also server quite nicely as a safety net for protection against malware or illegitimate use of the internet. It has been particularly designed for the protection of children. Rautor is already being used in Telcos and other corporations.  The basic version is completely Open Source and free and can be found under Sourceforge.

Rautor has three major  modes of operation in its auditing fashion:

  1. It dumps periodically the user’s screen in a .png file if so desired
  2. It can find the names of all active or inactive windows on the user’s screen. It can also scrape the screen of its contents for well behaved applications.
  3. Keeps a full keyboard log if configured to so so.

Conditionally it can upload the files created to an external FTP server for heightened security.

All of the above recordings can be viewed by the parent / guardian / administrator by the RautorViewer. The RautorViewer application can be run from any Java enabled browser and you can see an example of it in picture 2.

Especially for the safe browsing of the internet by children, Rautor can:

  1. Lock the PCs DNS servers to those of opendns.org threby utilizing their child safety standards.

Opendns Account is required to better utilize this option.

  1. Lock the PC to use an optional  filtering proxy server.

In this case if the PCs user attempts to view inappropriate content the (s)he will see an error screen like the one in Picture 1.

Rautor is fully configurable by the use of its helper application rrs.exe. For a sample of supported options please review Picture 3.

Supported OSes: Most Windows versions

Supported Browsers: Internet Explorer and compatibles,Firefox,Opera

Space demands for auditing files: Approx 2,5 Gig / week for complete auditing.
